1.How did the idea of creating a portal for restaurants and places in Italy come about?
IRistorante was the idea of Ciprian Dobrescu, the idea of one night when he was tired of paying for meals in restaurants of questionable quality, when eating in the city. After some time, they moved to another area of the city and did not know the company headquarters and a restaurant or a place where you could eat pizza or where you could organize an outing with friends and colleagues. They wanted to have an online forum to learn about interesting places in the area where our company was established.
All this, combined with Ciprian’s inability to eat at a restaurant that was not recommended by anyone or reviewed before, along with his partner’s knowledge and 8 years of Internet Marketing experience, came up with the idea of building a website that allows visitors to get information about the quality of service and food of a place before spending money.
Guided by the belief that “word of mouth” is the cheapest way to build a brand,
Ciprian partnered with Elena Bodea from “Institute of Applied Technology” Web Services Division and together they are the owners of IRistorante.it .
2. How did they choose the name IRistorante?
On a hot summer day in a restaurant in Padua, a little nervous about the bad service we received there. We still have the bill received in that restaurant in 2006.
3. Who are the investors behind IRistorante?
The site was founded by Ciprian Dobrescu and Elena Bodea, and both are very passionate about new Internet technologies and the power of “word of mouth”.
Our partners include web services and hosting companies from Italy, which provide us with the necessary infrastructure to run the web applications behind IRistorante.it, which, together with the very extensive IATech know-how, build the complete solution to develop a platform of unique services for the Ho.Re.Ca sector in Italy.
4.How was the project financed?
The Business Plan of the IRistorante project was developed at the end of 2005, followed by numerous presentations for potential investors.We received a six figure investment in the first 2 months of pitching from a private investment group.
5. How do you describe the IRistorante brand?
We don’t try to give the classic “ We are an online review site, etc.. ”, because we are much more. We are rather a place for all those who appreciate quality and are not afraid to say what they think, those who say things as they are, those who like to help others find something of quality or when it is not good. There are many “special” review sites on the Internet, but are they also fun? We want to bring entertainment as an essential factor when visiting the IRistorante site.
6. When will a mobile version be available?
The mobile browser will be an important channel through which we will pass the IRistorante experience and will be introduced at the end of August 2011.
7. How to make money?
We want IRistorante to be a totally free resource for visitors who access the site and above all are looking for quality. The site earns from related products, while the brands will pay for relevant results on searches and presentations on the website (push and pull advertising), especially pull advertising. On the other hand, we are discussing ways to have web2.0 review licenses with different websites.
8.What are the goals for the next 12 months?
To improve the visitor experience on our site, to increase the quality of reviews and many more things that will be revealed next year.
